Office Automation

One of Microsoft Office’s strengths, compared to other products, is the ability of the component applications to interact with each other using automation.  By simply including a reference to the desired application, using VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) you have complete control of other Office applications and can programmatically create and edit documents.  We often use automation with Word, Excel and Outlook.

Through the magic of automation, we have:

Created and sent email messages confirming address changes in a SQL Server database
Created customized Word mail-merge email messages for thousands of recipients from a database
Generated complex and lengthy documents from Word templates and customized them using database information
Created complex Excel reports and charts using database information

Performed repetitive Word mail merges using parameter driven Access queries
